Millard Oakley Public Library News
May 17, 2024
The Millard Oakley Public Library recently received a donation from the Caney Fork Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Grace Buell and Pam Billington presented a copy of the book “Patriots to Pioneers, The First Tennessee Volunteers” to our library. This 600-page volume features 372 documented and sourced Tennessee Patriot stories, 300 additional proven Tennessee Patriot names, full-color illustrations by historical artist David Wright and others. The book also includes an introduction and overview of the history of Tennessee’s role in the American Revolution and its founding. With the 250th anniversary of the birth of America happening soon, this collection of stories is a great addition to our library, and will be a useful resource to genealogists, teachers, and students of American and Tennessee history.
The Library Board will meet this Tuesday, May 21 at 4:30.
The library will be closed on Monday, May 27, for Memorial Day.
Our Summer Reading Program will begin on Thursday, May 30, at 10:30 with stories, crafts and lunch, followed by performer Barry Mitchell at 1:00.
The theme for the Summer Reading Program this year is “Adventure Begins at Your Library”.
The library is expanding this theme to include all of Livingston by contacting local businesses to assist us in a scavenger hunt. Our staff has already talked to several businesses, and are working on contacting more.
If you own or manage a business, have not yet been contacted, and would like to assist us,
please contact Judith or Terri at (931) 823-1888.
