 July 24, 2026
The staff at the Millard Oakley Public Library would like to thank all of those who assisted or participated in our summer reading program this year.
We are so proud of our young readers, who read a total of 133,014 minutes this year.
That is an increase of 25,334 more minutes over last year!
Our top three pre-k readers were Anja Olkonen (1550 minutes), Katja Olkonen (1553 minutes), and Ryder Calicott (1530 minutes). Our elementary readers were lead by Ivy Smith (9089 minutes), Matthew Kelley (8555 minutes), and Owen Biron (8351 minutes).
Top teen readers were Aaron Oskowski (5754 minutes), Rebecca Walker (4500 minutes), and Ellie Baurmans (2211 minutes).
Congratulations to all of our readers!
A special thanks to the Friends of Overton County Library, who sponsored all of our summer entertainers. Deb Newkirk, Danielle Smith, and Helen Carter also stepped up when volunteers were needed. Grace Roe donated many of our prizes. Many businesses also contributed refreshments, prizes, and time to help make our summer reading program a success.
Farm Bureau, Union Bank, First National Bank, Roony’s, Jerry’s IGA, Food Lion, Livingston City Hall, and so many other businesses contributed.
We would also like to congratulate Benton King, who has read 5000 books before kindergarten! The Livingston Rotary Club awarded him with a new book, “Do Unto Otters,” as well as a gift certificate to Plenty Bookshop.
