Millard Oakley Public Library News
 September 22, 2023

The Millard Oakley Public Library would like to thank all those who came out for our “Color Reveal” on Thursday, September 21.
It was so emotional for our staff to help William McFetridge, Joshua Winningham, and Eliana Whitehead see the world in a different way!  Through a grant with ETSU and the Tennessee State Library and Archives, our library is one of the first in the state to assist those who are color-blind to see colors for the first time.  One in every 12 men, and one in every 200 women, are color-blind.  This means that over 5400 Overton County residents can’t enjoy the beauty that is Tennessee.  This grant gave these three individuals their own glasses, and also makes available glasses for the library to loan out for a brief time.  If you or someone you know has trouble seeing color, please stop by the library soon to see if these glasses may help. They will be available until October 21, and then we will send them to the Regional Library, so other libraries can offer them to their patrons to try.

The library will be closed on Monday, October 9, for Columbus Day.

Our crafters club meets every Tuesday morning at 9:00.

Story Time is every Thursday morning at 10:30.

The newest group to use our meeting room is the Quilter’s Guild.  They will meet on Monday, October 16 at 10:00.

There are several new books in the library this week.  New titles include:
“Out of Nowhere” by Sandra Brown, “A Wild Winter Swan” by Gregory Maguire, “Fractal Noise” by Christopher Paolini, “Ink Blood Sister Scribe” by Emma Torzs, and “Heartbroken” and “In the Blood” by Lisa Unger.

“In a meadow full of flowers, you cannot walk through and breathe those smells and see all those colors and remain angry. We have to support the beauty, the poetry, of life.”  Jonas Mekas
